When Humberto Leon – co-founder of fashion brand Opening Ceremony – and his family decided to go into the restaurant business with Chifa in Los Angeles, they didn’t have to look far for inspiration. “Chifa is really a take on how we eat as a family,” he says. He shows us how he celebrates his family’s multicultural roots and how they come together for meals.

Celebrating family roots through food: “Chifa’s menu reflects our family’s ethnic backgrounds: Chinese, Peruvian, and Taiwanese food, served side by side. We want people to experience food as if we invited them to our home.”

“At home, we generally always eat family-style. We put the food all in the middle and everyone kind of grabs what they love. Then sometimes we’ll eat dessert, and then come back to dinner.”
