Danish furniture designer Hee Welling founded his Copenhagen studio in 2003. His work, which is characterized by a great sense of proportion and quietly elegant looks, has been honored with the Bo Bedre Award (Denmark), and Good Design Award (USA), and Welling was nominated for Danish Designer of the Year in both 2013 and 2014. Welling is the son of a cabinetmaker, from whom he inherited a fascination with production techniques, materials, and machinery. He studied at The University of Art and Design in Helsinki, and received his master’s degree in furniture design from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. His design ethos is centered on creating technically accomplished products that can reach a wide audience. For HAY, Welling has designed the About A series and the Hee Chair, Lounge Chair, and Bar Stool.
