BEHIND THE DESIGN
Born in Serbia, Ana Kraš studied furniture design and interior architecture at the University of Applied Arts in Belgrade. Drawing on her knowledge of design, art, photography, and fashion, she created the colorful and sculptural Bonbon Shade. Each one is handcrafted by precisely wrapping yarn around a steel wire frame, making every Bonbon truly unique. Discover Ana’s design process behind this HAY favorite.

The inspiration
Artful illumination, on or off: “I always think about how lamps are around all day long, but you need light only when it gets dark. A lamp with the light turned off is an object, like any other object, like a sofa or a chair.”
Expanding the collection
The spark of inspiration: “When I was a student, I was actually working on another lamp, and I had this extra lampshade frame lying around in my apartment,” Ana says. “I just kept thinking about wrapping some cotton yarn over it. It was really time-consuming, but I liked the result.”
